Creative Real Estate Offer: Housing for Domain Name

Share

Have domain, will swap for domicile. Such is the offer of a Web site designer frustrated by the want of affordable housing in Palo Alto.

Ann Bradley’s ad in the Palo Alto Daily News sought a “Palo Alto living situation”--free rent for a year or two--in exchange for one of the Internet domain names she owns. The lucky landlord would get rights to either thiswiredhouse.com or etake-out.com.

“I’m just taking a chance and throwing it out there to see what happens,” and what the market will bear, Bradley said. In a virtual world where Bank of America paid $3 million for the domain name loans.com, anything is possible.

Bradley, a longtime Palo Altan, is sharing quarters with her ex-husband. When she set out to find her own place, the only thing she could afford was a $995-a-month studio, with a half-bath. “It doesn’t matter how old you are,” says the Web site designer. “For $995 a month you should be able to have a full bath.”

Genaro says he practices a “different cultural consciousness,” eating beaver meat and making clothing from the furs.
