Robert E. Neumann, a former police officer and retired investigator, died Monday at his home in Ventura following a lengthy illness. He was 75.

Neumann was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Iowa and moved to Burbank when he was about 25.

After working for 10 years as a Burbank police officer, Neumann moved to Ventura where he became an investigator for the Ventura County welfare fraud unit, a job he held for more than 20 years.

Neumann enjoyed his career in law enforcement and working with wood. He enjoyed buying, selling and refinishing antiques. According to family members, he was known for his mottoes, “Never throw anything away” and “Everything is for sale.”

He is survived by sons John of Somis, Evans and Edward, both of Ventura, and Donald of Indiana; daughter Nancy Barnes of Oklahoma; sisters Hazel Jensen, Irene Dummermuth and Ethel Voshel, all of Iowa, and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at Joseph Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura, which is handling the arrangements.

Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, Iowa. Burial will follow at a local cemetery.
