BMG Unit to Sell Music Over the Internet

NEW YORK — BMG Entertainment, the music and entertainment division of German media company Bertelsmann, said it will sell music for downloading via the Internet beginning in June.
BMG will use software from Microsoft Corp., IBM Corp. and InterTrust Technologies Corp. to prevent illegal copying of the music.
Major record companies initially were wary of the online music business, fearing users would copy songs to avoid payment. That has begun to change. In January, Universal Music Group said it will sell music over the Internet.
