School Prayers

Re “Justices Leaning Against Prayers Led by Students,” March 30: Public prayers, in any form, are not appropriate for public school officials to encourage or even permit as part of any official school function. Thankfully, the Supreme Court apparently will concur that a student whose beliefs may differ from the majority has a right to attend his school’s football game without being subjected to a classmate’s religious expressions.
My applause to the Baptist Joint Committee for endorsing this position, and shame on Gov. George W. Bush for promoting force-fed school prayer.
