‘Will Sing for Peace’: A Tune of Hope
The Hope University Choir will debut a song, “Will Sing for Peace,” during the Very Special Arts Festival on April 29 at MainPlace/Santa Ana.
The choir, a musical group for adults with developmental disabilities, will perform the song written by choir member Ben Simendinger and music instructor Ray Law. Simendinger was inspired to write the song when, while sitting at a bus stop, he saw a homeless person holding a “Will Work for Food” sign.
Simendinger developed the song with Law after a discussion of conflicts in Kosovo, Israel and Bosnia-Herzegovina. They are hoping the song will promote world peace this year like the song “We Are the World” raised awareness of world hunger in the 1980s.
The event, which kicks off the 15th annual Orange County Imagination Celebration, a family arts festival, will provide free activity booths and two stages for music and drama performances.
The Very Special Arts Festival is designed to provide children with developmental disabilities the opportunity to express themselves in the music and arts.
