They Are Using It to Their Advantage

After struggling over the last 20 games with their power play, the Kings turned it around in their last three, scoring five goals with a man advantage.

Jaroslav Modry did the scoring at Vancouver in a 1-1 tie Tuesday night, and Modry did it again Friday, adding his power-play goal to that of Jere Karalahti in a 3-2 victory over Dallas.

On Sunday, Rob Blake and Glen Murray had power-play goals, Murray’s coming in overtime and serving as the game-winner in a 4-3 defeat of the Mighty Ducks.

A couple of front-office staff members are having to scramble with the playoffs approaching.

Because the Kings didn’t know their first-round destination until Friday, John Wolf, assistant to the general manager, has had to find hotel rooms in Detroit, where most of them were long-ago reserved because Comerica Park, which replaced venerable Tiger Stadium, is opening.

And Lee Zeidman, vice president of operations for Staples Center, is getting in another set of glass for the boards, the third set for the new building. It’s expected to be installed for Monday’s Game 3 of the series against Detroit.
