* Dance--UC Santa Barbara will present its series of Spring Dance 2000 concerts this weekend at the Hatlen Theatre on campus. Six original works make up the annual performances. Show times: Friday-Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2 p.m. $16 general, $12 seniors and students. 893-3535.

* Yard Work--The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden will present two sessions of the workshop “How to Design a Garden That Works” Saturday. Landscape architect Owen Dell will teach participants the essential steps in creating a garden that will suit a person’s lifestyle. The garden is at 1212 Mission Canyon Road. * Classical--The Santa Barbara Symphony will present two performances of “Triumphant Optimism” at the Arlington Theater, 1216 State St., Santa Barbara. * Rhythm--Scottish percussionist Evelyn Glennie will make her only Southern California tour stop Tuesday at the Lobero Theatre, 33 E. Canon Perdido St., Santa Barbara. Glennie, a Grammy Award winner, plays a wide range of timpani and percussive instruments, as well as the Great Highland bagpipes. Show time: 8 p.m. $28, $38. 963-0761.

* Dance--The Joe Goode Performance Group will present its Bessie Award-winning dance-theater work “Deeply There (Stories of a Neighborhood)” Tuesday at 8 p.m. at UC Santa Barbara’s Campbell Hall. $12-$22. 893-3535.

* Concert--UC Santa Barbara will host its annual New Music Festival beginning Wednesday at Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall on campus. The festival will continue through April 22 and feature performances by Denmark’s Esbjerg Ensemble, noted Danish composer Bent Sorensen and UC Santa Barbara’s ECM-Ensemble for Contemporary Music.
