* Williams-Sonoma Inc. said it will open seven Pottery Barn Kids children’s furniture stores later this year in a test that could lead to a broader U.S. expansion next year. The company also plans to open six to eight Elm Street kitchen and home-furnishings stores in 2001 that will be aimed at a broad customer base rather than the affluent consumers its other chains target. The Pottery Barn Kids stores will open by year’s end in Southern and Northern California, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Colorado markets.
