IRVINE
The Tustin Unified School District on Monday set attendance boundaries for two new Irvine elementary schools.
Administrators expect the initial student bodies to be small, at least until the budding communities of Northpark and West Irvine get larger.
Myford Elementary School, which will serve kindergartners through fifth-graders on Trevino Drive in West Irvine, will open in 2001 and is expected to have about 150 students on its first day.
An equal number of students are expected at Hicks Canyon Elementary School, set to open on Northpark’s Viewpark Avenue in 2002.
Natural boundaries such as the San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor, the San Diego Freeway and Jamboree Road were the deciding factors in determining attendance areas, district officials said.
The boundaries for Myford Elementary School will fall between the toll road to the south and Jamboree Road going north up into the hills. The San Diego Freeway will be the starting point for the school’s boundaries.
Hicks Canyon Elementary School will take students who reside in the area near the San Diego Freeway and Culver Drive over to the toll road and into the village of Northpark.
