The Ocean Institute of Dana Point is starting a program to educate boaters about California gray whales and their behavior.
The institute’s research vessel Sea Explorer will be used for public whale-watching cruises on weekends this month, or when the latest migratory stage ends.
The Sea Explorer also will record sightings and the behavior of the whales while the program is running.
The institute will offer boaters a free pamphlet on how to conduct whale watches.
The institute is at 24200 Dana Point Harbor Drive. Information: (949) 496-2274.
