Police Request Help of Public to Find Robber

Investigators are seeking the public’s help in finding a serial robber who has held up at least 15 banks in Southern California.

During the last eight months, the man police have dubbed the “Kangaroo Bandit” has robbed banks in Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura and San Diego counties, said Brea Police Det. David Wearp.

The robber got the nickname because of the type of backpack he has carried during the robberies.

The latest known holdup in the crime spree, which began in August, was a robbery Friday of a California Federal Bank in the 21500 block of Yorba Linda Boulevard in Yorba Linda, Wearp said.

The suspect is armed with a handgun. He is described as 5 feet 10, between 180 and 200 pounds with short dark hair and green eyes. He wears dark clothes, a fisherman’s hat, a backpack and a painted-on beard and mustache.
