Marines Killed in Osprey Crash

Share

As the wife of a Marine Corps helicopter pilot, I was deeply saddened by the crash of the MV-22 Osprey that resulted in the deaths of 19 Marines (April 9-12). Only anger matched my sorrow as the media quickly dispensed with the accident without giving the dead Marines the respect they earned. The story made the front page only once (April 10), and the names of the dead Marines were listed on an inside page.

Marines lead very difficult and dangerous lives for the honor of serving their country. The least we can give them is the respect and appreciation they deserve. Unfortunately, the media seem to think that Elian Gonzalez and others are more deserving of our respect. Elian is trying to reap the very freedoms the Marines died trying to protect. Does no one care about the young American children of the dead Marines who are now left fatherless? Can anyone name even one of the Marines who died on April 8?

Shame on Michael Ramirez for that insensitive cartoon (April 13) depicting Nasdaq stocks going down in the form of an Osprey aircraft in which 19 Marines were recently killed. I would think that their lives had much more meaning than to be used for grist in his cartoon mill. The Marines and their families deserve more respect.
