H. Richard “Dick” Wienke, a retired executive accountant, died Sunday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. He was 81.

Wienke was born Sept. 26, 1918, in McHenry, Ill., and grew up in Chicago.

He graduated in 1941 from Loyola University in Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

After graduation, he was a Navy lieutenant during World War II. During this time, he married Julie Theresa McAlpine of Hartford, Conn.

After completing his military service, Wienke received a master’s degree in business from the University of Detroit.

Later, the couple moved to the San Fernando Valley, where he was employed by the Los Angeles Times as an executive accountant.

After his retirement in 1983, the Wienkes moved to Port Hueneme and settled in the senior living community of Hueneme Bay, where he turned his attention toward community activities. He served as president of the local Kiwanis Club chapter from 1988 to 1989, was Kiwanian of the Year in 1990, and was named Kiwanian of the Decade in 1997.

Most recently he served as financial manager of the organization.

He also served as commander of the Military Order of World Wars from 1992 to 1993 and received a certificate of appreciation from the order.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by six children and 15 grandchildren.

Mass is scheduled at 9 a.m. today at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Oxnard. Interment will be private.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Conrad-Carroll Mortuary in Oxnard.
