A judge has sentenced a Pomona man to six years in state prison for molesting his 8-year-old stepdaughter while his wife was pregnant.

Ricardo Olvera, 31, was convicted in January of one felony count of a lewd act with a child.

A jury acquitted Olvera of four other counts of lewd acts with the same child on other alleged occasions in 1999, Deputy Dist. Atty Kim Santini said.

Before Judge Robert Martinez imposed the sentence on Monday, Olvera’s supporters pleaded for leniency given his lack of a criminal record, Santini said. However, Olvera’s wife, who is now seeking a divorce, told the judge that Olvera was a man who changed into someone she did not know, Santini said.

Olvera’s wife was about four months pregnant with the couple’s child when the molestation occurred and has since given up the infant for adoption, Santini said.

At the January trial, the 8-year-old testified for several hours against her stepfather, the prosecutor said. Olvera’s wife became suspicious of him after finding the girl’s clothes in their bed, Santini said.
