In the upcoming days we’re going to see a small tsunami of words attempting to explain why last week ended in “Black Friday.” Sometimes the solution to a problem lies not in finding an answer but in asking the right question.

Don’t waste your time asking why the stock market plummeted. Instead ask, how did the market achieve such comically ridiculous valuations that a meltdown was all but inevitable? Nobody can pop a limp balloon.

The Clinton crash, which has been triggered by the Justice Department’s antitrust action against Microsoft, and further fueled by the Justice Department’s (and state attorneys general’s) actions against the tobacco and firearms industries, will surely add to the Clinton legacy. Just as he will be remembered as a greater crook than Nixon, he will now be remembered as a greater cause of misery than Hoover.
