Rah Digga, “Dirty Harriet,” Flipmode/Elektra. The 18-song collection from Busta Rhymes’ sidekick reasserts the value of pure verbal acrobatics. Digga makes most of her points with her humorous punch lines.
Elliott Smith, “Figure 8,” DreamWorks. Smith dissects relationships and moods as deftly as anyone since Elvis Costello. This time the musical shading is more aggressive, adding some Beatlesesque muscle to the lingering Simon & Garfunkel folk tapestries.
Travis, “The Man Who,” Epic/Independiente. The acclaimed Scots offer a monumental mope of seductive beauty. It gets to be too much of the same, and the album could use more of the slow-building intensity of “Turn” and the caustic energy of the raw, lively hidden track.
