Hertzberg Seeks Students for Summer Internships

Applications are being accepted for a summer internship program at the office of Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg (D-Sherman Oaks), officials said Wednesday.

High school and college students interested in government and public policy are encouraged to apply for the unpaid 40th Assembly District internships, said Eddie Shiomi, a field representative at Hertzberg’s Van Nuys office. About 40 positions are available, officials said.

Interns will attend advisory commission meetings, help with constituent services and do community outreach, Shiomi said.

They also will do policy research and public-relations projects, he said.

“To see how a district office operates is a very valuable education,” Shiomi said. “It’s great networking. [Interns] get a great understanding of how things work.”

Internships generally begin in June, but starting dates and hours are flexible, Shiomi said. Students should apply as soon as possible, he said.

Applications are available at Hertzberg’s office, 6150 Van Nuys Blvd., Suite 305, Van Nuys. For more information, call Shiomi at (818) 904-3840.
