ANAHEIM
In September the student member of the Anaheim Union High School District will have a new responsibility. The Board of Trustees voted 3 to 2 to give the student the option to have a nonbinding vote on any issues put before the board. The vote will not count, but it will give the member a way to express students’ points of view.
The student member, John Metzidis, argued emphatically for the change last week, saying the representative should do more than give a school activities report. Trustees Harald G. Martin and Robert Stewart said they opposed the change because a student member’s votes on controversial matters could put the student in an uncomfortable position among peers.
