A tip from a Woodbridge resident about a suspicious vehicle in the area helped Irvine police nab a 26-year-old Anaheim man they believe robbed a home late Tuesday night.

Juan Perez was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary after police recovered from Perez’s vehicle what appeared to be stolen property and tools commonly used during a burglary, said Irvine Police Lt. Sam Allevato.

“Fortunately for us, the community has this heightened awareness,” he said.

Police recently advised Woodbridge residents to report anyone suspicious in light of nearly 60 burglaries there since Jan. 1.

But police said Perez does not fit the profile of the serial burglar.

On Tuesday, police got word of a suspicious man cruising the area near Orangegrove Street in a gray Chevrolet Nova, Allevato said.

Moments later, officers responded to an alarm set off when a window was smashed. They spotted Perez driving a gray Nova and arrested him after recovering a reportedly stolen watch, Allevato said.
