Jack Hawkins, a Sonora High School science teacher, was selected to attend the eighth annual National Teacher Forum in Washington, D.C., later this year because of his outstanding work as an educator.

“The goal is to find out how we as a school train and retrain our teachers to work with children to achieve success,” said Karla Taylor, Sonora High’s principal. “It’s a very prestigious honor to be chosen for this.”

Hawkins will spend three days in October giving talks on the importance of teacher leadership, roles and responsibility alongside 120 other instructors from across the country.

School officials said they’re proud to have Hawkins as a representative of Sonora High and the state.

Hawkins was named Teacher of the Year for the Fullerton Joint Union High School District and Orange County, and was one of five honored as California Teachers of the Year in January.
