4 Area Firms to Enter National Advertising Contest

Four Ventura County advertising agencies and printing firms will have their work entered in the national Addy Award competition after a Southern California district event.

National winners will be announced in June in Las Vegas.

The four are Barbara Brown Marketing, Carol Gravelle Graphic Design, Haagen Printing, and Holden Color.

The agencies are among 15 Gold Addy winners from the Ventura County competition that advanced to district competition.

The county’s ceremony, held March 21, was sponsored by the Ventura County Advertising Federation.

“This is the Oscars for the ad community,” said federation President Bette MacKinnon.

Barbara Brown Marketing won Best of Show at the county competition for its Web site design for California Wood Recycling, at https://www.theartofcompost.com.

Gold winners at the Civics Arts Plaza ceremony in Thousand Oaks included Carol Gravelle Graphic Design for a poster campaign of its work for ACT Networks and for its Cafe Bleu poster; and Cook/Collins & Associates for sales promotion for work for Bond/Helman Vintage Enhancer.

Other winners were Raduechel Ink for a newspaper ad for the Ventura Family YMCA; Seminis for direct marketing for its Petoseed Worldwide Calendar; and Weiser Litho for collateral material done on a job for Westlake magazine.

Weiser also won an award for business-to-business direct marketing for work for JVC. Haagen Printing won an award for industry self-promotion. Holden Color won awards for print excellence for work for both Honda and the California Community Foundation.

Ten silver awards, seven certificates of merit and a handful of student awards were also given. The competition comprised about 233 entrants.
