LA HABRA
The city’s Parent Teachers Assn. will honor 16 seniors from La Habra and Sonora high schools today with college scholarships during a luncheon.
The group will award scholarships of $750, money raised from a PTA thrift shop, to eight students from each school.
“They don’t necessarily need to go to a traditional college or university,” said Vicki Sietsema, spokeswoman for the shop. “Some may go on to a technical or trade school, but the point is they’re continuing their education.”
Two scholarships, one for each school, are named after Lucielle Thure, a thrift-shop founder, and will be awarded to students who have shown a large interest in volunteerism, shop officials said.
The award luncheon will be in the La Habra Clubhouse at the 200 W. Greenwood Ave. Information: (562) 691-6375.
