‘Gathering of Arts’ to Benefit Park Docents

About 30 artists will be selling their work this weekend to raise money for the docent program at Topanga State Park.

The third annual “Gathering of Arts,” sponsored by the park docents and the Topanga Canyon Art Gallery, will offer paintings, ceramics, jewelry, handcrafted furniture and photography. Books on wildlife and hiking trails also will be available.

The docents will receive 10% of the art sales and revenue from the $5 parking fee, gallery spokeswoman Nancy Williams said. The proceeds will be used to maintain park trails and improve a taxidermy exhibit in the park’s nature center.

“Everything the docents do is a donation of their time,” Williams said. “The only way to help them out is getting an input of money from the community.”

Organizers have been pleased with turnouts at the two previous events, which raised a total of $28,000. The event is expected to bring in more than $50,000 this year, Williams said.

There also will be live folk and blues music at the event, to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 20825 Entrada Drive, Topanga Canyon, four miles north of Pacific Coast Highway. For more information, call Williams at (310) 455-1474.
