The Planning Commission voted unanimously Monday to deny a petition from Sprint PCS to install a 46-foot cellular phone antenna at a water tank facility on Ganiza.

Compass Telecom Services, an agent for Sprint PCS, wanted to install an antenna pole disguised as a pine tree on a plot of land owned by the Moulton Niguel Water District. Two antennas, operated by the cellular phone companies Nextel Communications and Pacific Bell, already sit atop the water tower.

A number of residents who came to the meeting to voice their discontent with the proposal persuaded the commissioners to refuse Sprint’s request.
