* Re “An Ethnic Strategy on the Census,” April 17: As a biracial person, it pains me greatly to hear voices on the radio encouraging me to “just check the black box.” Until recently, multiracial people have been specifically instructed to “check one only,” forcing us to choose one ethnic affiliation. And when we finally get the chance to be recognized for who we are, we are accused of not celebrating our heritage by doing just that--celebrating our true heritage.

Although I support outreach efforts to address the disenfranchised, I am deeply offended by those who view us as a political threat instead of allies.
