Santa Ana Makes the Sacrifice, Defeats Orange Coast in Ninth

Aaron Escobedo scored on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Pasillas in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving Santa Ana a 5-4 victory over Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday.

C.J. Wilson hit a two-run home run in the fifth for the Dons (30-5-1, 16-4).

Jason Reuss and Eric Wiethorn hit first-inning home runs for Orange Coast (16-21, 6-14).

In other conference games:

Cypress 7, Golden West 2--Darin Davis and Ryan Hubbard each hit solo home runs for host Cypress (19-18, 13-6), which won its eighth consecutive game. Davis’ home run came in the second inning and Hubbard’s in the fifth.

Left-hander Ray Aguilar (9-1) pitched eight innings for the Chargers, striking out five, walking three, and allowing two runs on five hits.

Riverside 6, Saddleback 4--Antoine Cameron had two hits and drove in three runs for Riverside (28-10-1, 12-8). Cameron hit a solo home run in the top of the third and a two-run single in the fifth.

Monte Mansfield (7-2) pitched a complete game, striking out 14, walking three and giving up six hits for the visiting Tigers.

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Fullerton 10, Golden West 5--The first-place Hornets (37-5, 9-2) had 16 hits, led by Crystal Aguirre and Annie Dedic with three each.

Saddleback 6, Irvine Valley 1--Tasha Maxwell had three hits, two RBIs and scored two runs to lead visiting Saddleback (17-16-1, 10-11) to the win.

Santa Ana 7, Orange Coast 2--Wendi Kralich pitched the first three innings, left the game and then came back to pitch the final two innings to pick up the victory for visiting Santa Ana (26-14, 15-6).

In the Southern California men’s tennis tournament:

Saddleback 5, Marymount 2--John Lippert and Arif Hasan teamed to sweep in doubles, 6-4, 6-1, which clinched the match for the Gauchos (18-4) in the quarterfinals at the Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.
