Hopkins in America

Share

Just like Anthony Hopkins, I too am from Port Talbot in Wales and proudly became a U.S. citizen. The Welsh attitude reported against this gentleman is totally unwarranted (Morning Report, April 15).

No other Welshman as I can remember has been so generous and patriotic. It was just recently that he donated 1 million pounds toward preserving the natural beauty of North Wales, just to mention one act of generosity he made toward the country of his birth.

As a fellow Welshman, I take my hat off to him and say congratulations on becoming a U.S. citizen. I am sure he will always have the love of both his adopted countries at heart.

My wife is not a movie star. Thus she waited three full years after her application for U.S. citizenship before taking the oath, with 6,000 others, at the L.A. Convention Center on Aug. 26. It was a thrilling, unforgettable occasion for us. So my congratulations to Anthony Hopkins on his new American citizenship.

But I can’t help wondering how long he had to wait, if at all, after his application. And I can’t help thinking how nice the “private ceremony” for his oath-taking must have been in the chambers of U.S. District Judge Margaret Murrow.
