Macy Gray was in a Los Angeles studio recently to collaborate with Fatboy Slim on two songs for the English techno hit-maker’s next album, due at the end of 2000 or the beginning of 2001. . . .

Looking for some new approaches, David Byrne is scouting producer candidates for his next album, which will be his first for Virgin Records. Among those high on the list is Jon Brion, producer of Fiona Apple’s latest and Aimee Mann’s Oscar-nominated work from the movie “Magnolia.” Byrne has been recording on a preliminary basis with Brion, who is also set to do some work on Perry Farrell’s first solo album, on Virgin as well. . . .

London’s Groove Armada, the duo behind “I See You Baby,” is working on what will be its second American-released album. New York rapper Jeru the Damaga has done a guest appearance, with more vocals from other guests to be recorded. After impressive DJ appearances in the U.S. recently, the team is returning with a full seven-piece band for an eight-city tour, including a June 7 show at the Mayan Theatre. . . .

L.A.-based techno figure Keoki, who’s just released a mix album on Moonshine, is working on his next “real” album, with former Love and Rockets member Daniel Ash providing some guitar and vocals. The new one is due in late 2000. . . .

“Behind the Music” veteran Poison, fully reunited in its original lineup, is set to release a new album, “Power to the People,” June 13 on its own Cyanide Music label, with a tour set to begin that day in the band’s home state of Pennsylvania. Fellow ‘80s hair bands Cinderella, Dokken and Slaughter are also on the bill. . . .

Massachusetts-based Fuel, following up a platinum debut with the 1998 album “Sunburn,” is in a New York studio with producer Ben Grosse (Filter, Vertical Horizon, Republica) working on a follow-up to be titled “Something Like Human” and due at the end of summer.
