Immigration Is No Game

Share

* Re “The Only ‘Immigration Game’ Loser: U.S.,” Agustin Gurza’s April 25 column:

Immigration to the United States is not a game.

People from all countries seeking to illegally immigrate to the United States must be made to understand that there are consequences to their actions for which they are responsible, not me or the other guy.

There do exist lawful methods to legally immigrate to the United States which are apparently ignored by those “seeking a better life.”

The first indication of what these people think of this country and our laws is not following the prescribed method of entry.

How dare Gurza presume to dictate what he thinks we should feel for people waving flags of their country who defy the United States while living here and taking advantage of whatever they can, without pledging allegiance to this country.

Perhaps energies such as Gurza’s would be better directed to the inhumane governments who get rich at the expense of their citizens.

There is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

* At least Agustin Gurza is consistent.

Gurza’s April 25 column continues his position on illegal immigration which only seems to speak to Latino interests and thumbs the nose at or completely ignores U.S. law.

The story of these two talented athletes is sad, but I don’t blame immigration law.

I blame the athletes’ parents for not teaching them that breaking the law may bring consequences. I blame writers like Gurza for perpetuating the idea that if you sneak into the U.S., you are owed opportunities.

For all of the stories about good, decent, hard-working people who want a chance at a new life away from the corruption and hopeless situation of their home country, there are also stories about criminals who are looking for new territories to exploit.

The U.S. government has to have control over immigration or there is no way of ensuring that this land of opportunity will still be here for anyone to immigrate to in the future.

The immigration “game” is lost by people who refuse to play by the rules, and by suggesting that we cater to them, Gurza makes us all losers.
