Two Valley residents have been appointed to county commissions by Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.

Robert Gross of Woodland Hills will serve on the 10-member county Probation Commission. A former executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley, Gross will work with other commission members to evaluate the probationary supervision of juvenile offenders. The board will report to Chief Probation Officer Richard Shumsky. It’s the second time Gross has been named to the board.

“I’m very pleased that Bob has agreed to continue as one of my appointees to the commission,” Yaroslavsky said. “He brings an understanding and compassion to the difficult task of dealing sensitively and effectively with our at-risk youth.”

Yaroslavsky also announced that Sherman Oaks resident Stephen Rosmarin will serve on the county’s Veterans Advisory Commission.

Rosmarin, a travel agent, has been involved in veterans’ affairs for more than 50 years. He is a decorated veteran of World War II and is chief of staff for the Los Angeles District Council of Jewish War Veterans.

Rosmarin and other commission members make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on veterans’ issues and also advise the county’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
