Alcohol and Cinco de Mayo

Share

Re “A Day of Pride, Prey to an Ad Blitz,” April 23.

After reading Professor [Juana] Mora’s concerns regarding the alcohol industry and Cinco de Mayo celebrations, I guess we should send in the National Guard to confiscate all of the guns pointed at the heads of Latino youth, forcing them into the liquor stores to buy booze.

I’ve lost touch with my cultural heritage, but somehow I manage to limit my alcohol consumption to three drinks per week, and show up to work every day.

I notice increased alcohol advertising around the 4th of July holiday, yet I never forget that that holiday is meant to celebrate our Declaration of Independence from an oppressive government.

If we continue down the road of increased government regulation, such as more restrictions on alcohol advertising, as Mora seems to hint at, we may just have another revolution.
