Cummins Engine Co., the world’s largest maker of high-power diesel engines, said it will change to Cummins Inc. to emphasize the growth of businesses such as generators and engine-filtering systems. The name change was approved by the company’s board last month and will be voted on by shareholders at Cummins’ annual meeting in April. The Columbus, Ind.-based company said its power-generation, filtration and other businesses now generate about 40% of sales, five times as much as units other than engines accounted for 30 years ago. The company had sales last year of $6.64 billion.
