Three members of the City Council will finally have their day in court Monday, a year after a lawsuit was filed alleging that they violated California’s open-meeting laws during a closed session.

The lawsuit, which was filed against the city by three residents in August 1999 in Orange County Superior Court, alleges that Mayor Sherri M. Butterfield and council members Susan Withrow and William Craycraft violated the Brown Act at an April 19, 1999, City Council meeting.

The lawsuit alleges that during the closed part of the meeting, the three council members illegally discussed two proposals by Councilman John Paul Ledesma.
