From Times Wire Reports

U.N.-sponsored talks on the future of the divided Mediterranean island of Cyprus ended in Geneva with an agreement to return to the table in September but no sign of progress on key sticking points. U.N. mediator Alvaro de Soto predicted a long haul for the talks, aimed at ending the island’s quarter-century of division. Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf R. Denktash blamed the Greek Cypriot side for the lack of progress. He said the talks were in danger of drifting. Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides had yet to brief the media on the talks. The latest round of talks began July 5. De Soto said the next round will start in New York on Sept. 12.
