Tech Cars a Step Back

Share

* The prime purpose of motorized vehicles is to get people safely from where they are to where they desire to be. While we can cheer crush zones, better parts, stronger brakes and increased visibility, most of the “high-tech” devices listed in “Auto Maker Taking High-Tech Road” [July 31] greatly interfere with safe driving and probably do or can cause additional accidents.

Almost every time we travel a busy L.A. street or freeway we see next-lane drivers engaged in telephone conversations, face makeup, eating, drinking, nail buffing, hair brushing and newspaper reading. None of these activities make them ready for a quick reaction if faced with any non-normal situation.
