Free Love, Not Labor

Share

Mark Ehrman’s insinuation that the wonderful murals painted by L.A.-area grade school students and displayed at the Hidden Beach Recordings event was an attempt to secure free labor (“On the Air Ball,” So SoCal, June 25) was callous beyond even so-called hip standards. The students created the murals to depict their unique take on “Celebrating the Independent Creative Spirit”--the theme of the party and underlying energy of the record label. Hidden Beach is committed to serving as a resource for the greater community, and in particular for young people. The mural project was another step in this process. For Ehrman to flippantly suggest that the students were used to secure free labor is immensely disrespectful to the youngsters, their schools and the energy they gave to this effort.
