Patent Issued for Needle Designed by Med-Design

The Med-Design Corp. in Ventura, which develops safety needle products for medical use, said a patent has been issued covering the safety needle retraction technology designed by Med-Design for use in an intravenous catheter.

Becton Dickinson of Salt Lake City has licensed this patent, among others, for its Insyte AutoGuard-P currently under development. The patent expires in 2018.

Med-Design’s needle technology has been awarded 13 U.S. patents, 16 foreign national patents and one European patent covering 12 countries.

It also has several patents pending in the U.S. and internationally.

Med-Design has developed more than 20 safety needle products for use in a wide range of medical procedures.
