Reason for Parties
I disagree vehemently with George Skelton’s opinion regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on open primaries (Aug. 7). It is not wrongheaded. I am a registered Democrat because this party represents, if not always 100%, my own political views. I do not want anyone who is not a Democrat having any say in my party’s candidate selection. Political parties are designed to bring like-minded people together and form a consensus.
If you were unhappy with your party’s primary candidates, then I suggest re-registering in a different party or creating your own. That’s what Ross Perot did. If you think there’s no difference between the parties, then you really haven’t been paying attention for the last eight years, and if you’re so discouraged that it keeps you from voting, good! You probably make bad decisions anyway.
