Motorist Found Dead Near Freeway

A motorist found dead Wednesday in his truck in brush below a Ventura Freeway embankment may have been involved in a single-vehicle accident earlier this week, authorities said.

A Caltrans maintenance worker found the 20-year-old Agoura man, whose identity was not released Wednesday, in the driver’s seat and wearing a seat belt, said CHP Officer Karen Faciane. Investigators believe the motorist crashed his 1993 Toyota pickup sometime Monday. Apparently no one saw the accident in which the vehicle tumbled down the dirt embankment and was obscured by trees and brush, Faciane said.

“It doesn’t appear the vehicle was visible from the roadway,” she said.

The truck was found at about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators said the driver appeared to have lost control of the truck, which slammed into a steel pole before careening down the embankment just west of the Reseda Boulevard offramp in Tarzana. The overturned vehicle’s roof was pressed against a concrete block wall, according to the CHP.

Faciane said it did not appear that any other vehicle was involved. The identity of the victim was being withheld pending notification of his family.
