The State Allocation Board approved state funds to modernize five schools in the Huntington Beach Union High School District. Huntington Beach, Marina, Fountain Valley, Edison and Westminster high schools will receive more than $40 million for critical repairs caused by age.

The district applied for the modernization funds in 1993. They also hope to receive additional funding to repair or replace sinking buildings at Fountain Valley and Marina high schools.

Contracts for repairs at Huntington Beach and Westminster high schools will be awarded later this year. Repair work at the other schools is expected next year.
