Police Block Gore Supporters

Re “Confident Bush Says Campaign Is on Track to Carry California,” Aug. 10: When did the Oxnard Police Department become workers for the Bush campaign? I was at the rally with many other Gore supporters and Bush protesters. We were all kept out of sight of George W. Bush and the news cameras. This allows the Bush people to control the news since only Bush signs were allowed to make it appear that the entire crowd was supporters. Even when I moved to an area 300 feet away that I thought might be visible to the cameras, I was chased away by Oxnard’s finest. Is this not public land?

The majority of white faces among his supporters puts the lie to Bush’s claim to have much support in the mostly Latino Democratic city.

Let me see if I understand this correctly. Agustin Gurza’s Aug. 8 column on the GOP suggests that as Latinos, we should get involved in the political process, get registered and vote. Just make sure that the only party you associate yourself with is the Democratic Party. If you don’t, you will be considered a vendido (a sellout).

Sounds to me like Gurza is a vendido to the Democratic Party. Why does this remind me of the PRI? Any Latino stupid enough to take that kind of intimidating advice has already given up his right to participate in the democratic process.
