Acceptance of Gay Family Members

* Re “A Cheney Family Portrait in Uncomfortable Focus,” by Patt Morrison, Aug. 7: I am a nearly 80-year-old heterosexual with no gay relatives of record and, therefore, I do not have an ax to grind with regard to Morrison’s column. However, I do have several friends and acquaintances who have homosexual children. They have accepted the fact but by the same token are not really happy about the situation, although they support their children. Several of the children have died of AIDS. On their behalf and the behalf of the Cheney family, I say to Ms. Morrison, this matter is none of your damned business or anyone else’s.

I think it is obvious to most of us that the article is no more than a political cheap shot at a decent family.

* Re “It’s Always Wrong, Except When It’s Their Daughter,” Commentary, Aug. 10: Thank you, Robert Scheer, for your sheer humanity. Of course homosexuals are made that way, and we have to keep talking about our wonderful family members who happen to be gay until the ignorance about this subject goes away. I happen to have two of these “wonderful people” in my family. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
