LAGUNA NIGUEL

Board members of the Orange County Transportation Authority voted unanimously Monday to approve taking the lead of a proposed MetroLink station in Laguna Niguel.
“There’s a lot of funds in jeopardy if we don’t move on this,” said Sarah L. Catz, an OCTA board member.
Catz said OCTA staff members will meet with a private property owner “pretty soon to discuss how to close the deal.”
The proposed station, aimed at benefiting south Orange County commuters, is badly needed, she added.
Laguna Niguel and Mission Viejo tried for several years to find the right site and acquire enough land, but the cost rose to nearly $5 million and negotiations with the owner of a potential site stumbled.
