Richard Dreyfuss, Burt Reynolds, Dan Hedaya and Seymour Cassel make up “The Crew,” four wise guys living in a senior citizens hotel who decide to fight their eviction amid neighborhood gentrification in Miami’s South Beach. Opens Friday in general release.

Theater

It’s not unheard-of to find women playing Shakespeare’s great male roles--as men--but Garden Grove’s Grove Theater Center’s production of “Hamlet” takes an even less common tack: Broadway performer Jane Macfie plays the title role as the princess of Denmark, not the prince. Friday through next Sunday. Also Sept. 9-17 at Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton.

Dance

With “let your Gypsy out” as his rallying cry, veteran local dancer, choreographer and teacher Juan Talavera brings his Flamenco Bravo! and Flamenco Loco! ensembles, plus guest artists, to Whittier High School Auditorium this evening for a program of traditional Spanish Gypsy music and dance. The performance is dedicated to Southland Spanish dance matriarch Lola Montes.

Music

Conductor Stefan Sanderling returns to the podium of the L.A. Philharmonic to conduct two concerts at Hollywood Bowl this week. Tuesday, his soloist is former LAPO principal cellist Ronald Leonard, who plays the Elgar Concerto on a program with Holst’s beloved “The Planets.” Soprano Sumi Jo returns Thursday, in a program of music by at least two Strausses and one Lehar.

Jazz

The 7th annual Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines Festival, unfolding next weekend in very picturesque surroundings, features two days of jazz, including performances by Richie Cole, Dave Pike, Herb Jeffries, Susie Hansen, Jon Mayer, Yve Evans, Marlena Shaw, Evan Christopher and the Sweet Baby Blues Band.

Winnie-the-Pooh’s bouncy-trouncy feline pal headlines his first feature adventure, “The Tigger Movie.” The animated family musical chronicles the exuberant Tigger’s journey to find his family. Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Roo, Rabbit, Owl and Christopher Robin are quickly in pursuit of their missing friend. Robert and Richard Sherman of “Mary Poppins” fame supplied several new songs. The film pounces onto video and DVD on Tuesday.

Pop Music

The annual Sunset Junction Street Fair in Silver Lake is one of the city’s premier block parties, and a choice showcase for L.A. musicians. The 3600-4400 blocks of Sunset Boulevard will ring on Saturday and next Sunday with the sounds of soul (Darlene Love), Motown (Mary Wilson), Goth (Kommunity FK), blues (Mickey Champion), Latin rock (Quetzal), L.A. rock (Extra Fancy) and more.
