* Days until opening ceremony: 25.

* Olympic update: More than 6,000 passengers were delayed for up to 80 minutes Sunday by the latest breakdown in the new baggage system at Sydney Airport, casting renewed doubts about the facility’s ability to handle Olympic crowds.

* March to the medals: Finding themselves unable to pick Olympic qualifiers after a collision in the men’s 1,500 meters in the Olympic trials, Australian track and field officials decided to rerun the race Saturday at Adelaide.

* Carrying the torch: A pipe band and a martial-arts display greeted the torch along its 188-mile journey from Moree to Armidale. Moree is an Aboriginal name meaning “water hole” or “rising sun.”

* Olympic footnote: Officials unveiled the largest media center in Olympic history, a facility that will be home to 5,500 journalists during the Sydney Games. The center is on the site of what used to be cattle and horse pavilions.
