PacifiCare Unit Opens Rx Mail-Order Center

A unit of PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. said Tuesday that it has opened a $25-million pharmacy center in Carlsbad to handle its growing mail-order prescription business.
The managed health-care provider said in a press release that the 84,000-square-foot facility will allow Prescription Services, its pharmacy unit, to process three times as many prescriptions annually.
Additional information wasn’t immediately available.
Prescription Services, which operates two mail-order centers and has network agreements with 41,000 pharmacies nationwide, handles $300 million in drug orders each year.
PacifiCare, which had revenue of $10 billion last year, manages health care for more than 4 million patients in nine states and Guam.
