Abuse Group Hires Latino Liaison
The Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence announced this week that it has hired a director to coordinate service for the Latino and Spanish-speaking community.
Benita Korda, a former nurse and project coordinator for the county’s public health services, was hired for the new position. Korda, 63, will make the group’s services understandable for Spanish-speaking residents.
Services include a 24-hour emergency shelter, support groups and counseling, a rape crisiscenter and a batterers treatment program.
She will also ensure that all policies and procedures, as well as printed forms, brochures and newsletters are translated into Spanish.
A grant from the state Department of Human Services Maternal Child Health Branch will pay for the position.
The Coalition’s Spanish language hotline is (800) 300-2181. For more information about services, call 983-6014 or visit the Web site at https://www.thecoalition.org.
