The Laguna Beach Unified School District’s budget will be in the black this year, officials reported.

On Tuesday, the district’s board of trustees approved the final 2000-01 budget, which shows a $6,912 surplus.

Expected expenditures for the year are $18.24 million, up $685,346 from the 1999-2000 spending plan.

The district’s projected revenue also has risen since last year. Staff members expect Laguna Beach Unified will reap about $18.32 million, up $485,497 from last year’s budget.

Most of the increase in expenditures from last year can be traced to employee salary and benefit raises and adding new staff positions to the payroll.

A rise in local property taxes has caused most of the expected revenue increase from last year, according to district reports.
