Temple Beth David will host a series of open houses in September. Rabbi Michael Mayersohn and representatives from the religious school, early childhood learning center, sisterhood, brotherhood, choir and youth groups will greet visitors, showcase programs and activities and answer questions. High Holy Day information will also be available. The series begins Friday at 7:30 p.m. and will continue at 8 p.m. on Sept. 8, 15 and 22 and from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 10.

Friday’s service will welcome new staff members Nancy Linder, cantor soloist, Gina Lewald-Fass, director of education for Lifelong Learning, and Stella Haynes, director of the early childhood learning center.

The Sept. 10 Open House is being held in conjunction with “Hear the Music” kids auction, a barbecue lunch and free concert with nationally acclaimed Jewish singer Julie Silver. The temple is at 6100 Hefley St., Westminster. (714) 892-6623.

Kara Miller Stewart and the Youth With a Mission group will present a dance concert at 7 p.m. Monday at West Anaheim United Methodist Church. Stewart, daughter of Carol Miller and the late Rev. Rabbi Bernie King will conduct a Children’s Shabbat Service at 7 p.m. Friday at Congregation Shir Ha-Ma’alot. The congregation will host several religious programs throughout the month as the Jewish community prepares for the High Holy Days. The Huntington Beach Church of Religious Science will hold a chili cook-off and country cabaret from 12:15 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Participants are encouraged to don western wear. Christ Lutheran Church will host a worship event on the beach with pastor Margaret Duttera giving the message “Why Follow Christ” at 8 a.m. Sunday at the foot of Avenue Pico in San Clemente.
