Guenter H. Dittmar; Retired Ventura Doctor

Guenter H. Dittmar, a retired physician, died at his home in Ventura on Thursday after a lengthy illness. He was 76.
He was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Wiesbaden, Germany, and later completed his medical training in Munich.
In 1953, he immigrated to the U.S. and became an intern at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. There, he met his future wife, Doreen, who was a student nurse at the hospital.
He performed his residency in internal medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles and was later director of emergency services at Los Angeles County General Hospital.
In 1965, he moved his family to Ventura, where he and his wife started a private internal medicine practice. He retired 30 years later.
His hobbies included traveling, poetry and music.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by sons Steven of Camarillo, Ric of Ventura and Kenneth of Camarillo; a sister, Ingrid Dittmar of Santa Monica; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. today at the Jubilee Church in Camarillo.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Charles Carroll Funeral Home in Ventura.
